AESO’s 2020 Long-term Transmission Plan

The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) recently released the 2020 Long-term Transmission Plan (LTP). The report describes the AESO’s projections for generation capacity and load in the province over the next 20 years. As part of the LTP, the AESO considered five possible scenarios: the reference case, high cogeneration sensitivity, alternate renewables policy, high load growth, and low load growth. [1]

Dispatchable Renewables and Energy Storage in Alberta

The Government of Alberta (GOA) directed the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) to review and assess the potential need for dispatchable renewables and energy storage due to significant intermittent generation being added to the grid by renewables.
